Jakarta, ThedailyID — Around 100 students in Cirebon, West Java, are suspected of food poisoning after eating meals from Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. Authorities have suspended the kitchen that supplied the food.
Yulian Septa Pratama, head of the Cirebon Nutrition Fulfillment Service Office (KPPG), confirmed the suspension on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. He said the decision followed reports of suspected food poisoning among program recipients.
“As of tonight, we have suspended the unit until further notice,” Yulian said in Cirebon, as quoted by Detik on
The suspended Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) supplied meals to beneficiaries in Kalijaga, Harjamukti district, Cirebon City. Students from SDN Kalijaga Permai, SDN Taman Kalijaga Permai, and Teratai Kindergarten were among those reportedly affected.
Authorities are still collecting data to establish the total number of suspected victims. Meanwhile, officials are coordinating with local authorities and hospitals to ensure affected students receive medical attention.
“The number of victims may be around 100. However, we will provide an updated total tonight,” Yulian said.
The suspension will remain in effect until authorities determine the next steps. Officials have not yet confirmed the final number of affected students or announced when the kitchen might resume operations.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about food safety in the nationwide MBG program, which provides meals to students and other beneficiaries. Further updates are expected as authorities continue collecting data and coordinating medical care.
