“No More Mr. Nice Guy”: Trump Hardens Stance on Iran

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Donald Trump has hardened his stance on Iran, warning that Tehran must accept a deal or face serious consequences. His remarks came on April 20, 2026, as tensions continue to rise over regional security and global energy routes.

In an interview with Financial Times, Trump said the United States had shown restraint but would not wait indefinitely. “There’s no more Mr. Nice Guy,” he said, stressing that Iran must respond to U.S. demands.

He added that Washington had already offered terms and expected a clear answer. “They have a choice. They can make a deal, or they can face very serious consequences,” Trump said, without detailing specific actions.

The warning comes as concerns grow over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane that carries around 20 percent of global oil supply. Any disruption in the area could impact energy markets and global trade.

Trump has also urged allied countries to support efforts to secure the route. However, several U.S. partners have yet to publicly commit, reflecting caution over further escalation.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have rejected pressure to negotiate under threats. Authorities in Tehran stated they would not enter talks while facing military intimidation, signaling continued resistance.

Analysts say the situation remains volatile, with risks of both diplomatic breakdown and military confrontation. As a result, global markets continue to monitor developments closely, especially in the energy sector.

Despite the strong rhetoric, uncertainty remains over the next steps. For now, both sides appear to hold firm positions, leaving the outcome of the standoff unclear.
