7 Signs Your Boss May Want You to Resign From Your Job

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Disagreeing with your boss at work is normal. However, not every manager welcomes different opinions or employees who challenge their decisions.

Some workplace behaviors may indicate that a boss wants an employee to resign. Nevertheless, a single incident does not necessarily mean your manager wants you gone.

Instead, pay attention to repeated patterns rather than isolated situations. Certain behaviors may reflect communication problems, dissatisfaction with your performance, or changes within the team.

Here are seven possible signs to watch for.

1. Your Boss Starts Avoiding You

Your manager may have previously been easy to approach but now rarely speaks to you. They might also seem unavailable whenever you try to discuss something.

According to Indeed, this behavior can include ignoring messages and emails, avoiding conversations during breaks, or arranging schedules that rarely overlap with yours.

2. Your Work Faces Excessive Supervision

Micromanagement can take several forms, including overly detailed instructions, repeated checks, and criticism of minor mistakes.

Although supervision can help employees improve, constant criticism without clear guidance may create an uncomfortable working environment. Pay attention if this behavior becomes increasingly frequent.

3. You Receive Fewer Responsibilities

You may suddenly stop receiving important projects or opportunities to handle new assignments. Your boss might also exclude you from planning sessions despite previously involving you in major decisions.

This could indicate declining trust, although organizational changes may also explain the situation. Consider asking about your current responsibilities and which skills you need to improve.

4. Your Achievements Rarely Receive Recognition

Recognition helps employees understand that their contributions matter. However, you may notice a pattern when your achievements repeatedly go unacknowledged while colleagues receive praise.

Still, avoid assuming that your boss deliberately ignores your success. Instead, present your results with clear data and request professional feedback during performance reviews.

5. Your Projects Are Reassigned to Others

A project you previously managed may suddenly move to another colleague without explanation. You might also receive assignments below your position or professional responsibilities.

Such changes can reflect team priorities. However, repeated reassignment without proper communication deserves attention. Ask why the project changed hands and clarify what your manager expects from you.

6. You No Longer Receive Important Information

Another warning sign is being excluded from important updates. According to the World Economic Forum, limited access to workplace information can make it difficult to plan tasks and understand career opportunities.

This lack of transparency may leave you feeling professionally sidelined. Consider asking your manager directly about upcoming targets, team priorities, and the skills required for your role.

7. Your Boss Criticizes You in Public

Constructive criticism should focus on work performance and respect the employee. However, repeated humiliation during meetings, sarcastic remarks, or personal attacks in front of colleagues indicate unhealthy communication.

If this happens regularly, document the dates, circumstances, and possible witnesses. You can also request a private discussion or contact the human resources department if the behavior continues.
