Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s women’s volleyball team defeated Vietnam 3-0 in the fifth-place classification match at the Asian Games 2026 on Monday, September 21.
Indonesia won the match 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18 at the Okazaki Central Park General Gymnasium. The result keeps Indonesia in contention for a fifth-place finish.
Mediol Yoku and her teammates started the match strongly. However, Vietnam also produced a competitive performance, creating a close battle from the opening set.
Indonesia managed to maintain its advantage despite the tight score. Ersandrina Devega and Mediol contributed several important points as Indonesia eventually won the first set 25-20.
Vietnam improved its performance in the second set. The team coached by Nguyen Tuan Kiet played with greater composure and made Indonesia work harder for every point.
The score reached 20-20 before Indonesia regained control. Indonesia then used its play at the net to create an advantage and eventually took the set 25-21.
Indonesia started the third set with stronger defense. Libero Indah Guretno repeatedly stopped Vietnam’s attacks and helped Indonesia maintain its lead.
Chelsa Nurtomo also produced a service ace as Indonesia moved ahead 9-5. Vietnam briefly reduced the deficit to 9-7, but Indonesia responded by extending its lead to 13-7.
Namira Maradanti contributed an important block during Indonesia’s run. Vietnam also gave away several points through attacks that landed outside the court.
Indonesia eventually led 17-11. Vietnam then scored three consecutive points to reduce the gap to 18-23.
However, Indonesia regained its composure and stopped Vietnam’s comeback attempt. Indonesia closed out the third set 25-18 to complete the 3-0 victory.
With the win, Indonesia advances to the next stage of the fifth-place classification. The team will face the winner of the Taiwan vs Kazakhstan match.
