Jakarta, ThedailyID — President Prabowo Subianto expects the Red and White Village/Kelurahan Cooperatives, known as Kopdes Merah Putih, to deliver a more noticeable economic impact from 2027.
Prabowo said the program could begin showing its effects within the coming months and become more apparent through 2027 and 2028. He made the remarks in the Presiden Prabowo Menjawab program on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
“These effects will, I think, be felt in a few months, perhaps in 2027, 2028 at the latest,” Prabowo said, reported on Thursday, September 17.
According to Prabowo, Kopdes Merah Putih is designed to serve as a key supply-chain channel at the village level. The government expects the cooperatives to shorten distribution chains and help people access basic goods at more affordable prices.
Around 6,000 Kopdes Merah Putih are currently operating, according to Prabowo. He expects the economic impact to become more visible as the number of operating cooperatives increases.
The president also described the program as a way to create a more efficient supply chain. Through the cooperatives, producers can sell their products to consumers without passing through multiple intermediaries.
Prabowo gave farmers as an example. He said agricultural products can currently pass through around five intermediaries before reaching consumers.
Those intermediaries, he said, can take margins of around 30% to 40%. As a result, consumers may pay more for food while farmers receive less of the final selling price.
“With KDKMP, there is only one intermediary between farmers and consumers,” Prabowo said.
“There is additional income for farmers, while consumers also save money. That is more or less the core idea,” he added.
The government has previously described Kopdes Merah Putih as an instrument to strengthen village-level economic activity and improve supply-chain access. In August, Prabowo said the government was targeting 30,000 cooperatives to operate optimally by the end of 2026.
At the same time, government officials have acknowledged that some cooperatives still face operational challenges. A September 2026 evaluation by the Presidential Staff Office identified supply-chain issues involving goods such as rice, cooking oil, gas, fertilizer and sugar.
