Jakarta, ThedailyID — Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park has temporarily suspended all permits for commercial and noncommercial filming and photography activities around Mount Bromo due to heightened forest and land fire risks.
The policy comes during the peak of the dry season, when vegetation across the national park has become extremely dry and more vulnerable to fire.
TNBTS Director-General Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha said the measure aims to protect visitors and the ecosystem while reducing the risk of fires caused by human activity.
“To protect visitor safety, preserve the ecosystem and prevent forest fires, TNBTS has temporarily suspended all permits for commercial and noncommercial shooting activities,” Rudijanta said, in Malang, East Java, as quoted by Antara. Tuesday, September 8, 2026
Large-scale filming activities often involve technical equipment, electrical installations and fuel. These materials can potentially create sparks that could ignite dry vegetation.
The suspension is outlined in Announcement Letter No. PG.21/T.8/BIDTEK/HMS.01.07/B/09/2026, issued on September 7, 2026.
The policy applies to event organizers, production houses and other event organizers operating in the area. Authorities also warned that violations would face sanctions under applicable laws and regulations.
“Violations of this regulation will be dealt with firmly in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” Rudijanta said.
Despite the filming restrictions, tourism activities at Mount Bromo and Ranu Regulo remain open as usual. Visitors can still travel to the destinations while following safety instructions issued by park authorities.
Meanwhile, hiking activities to Mount Semeru remain completely closed due to the impact of previous forest fires.
The temporary filming ban highlights the heightened fire risk across the national park during the dry season. Authorities are prioritizing visitor safety and ecosystem protection while maintaining regular tourism activities in areas that remain safe to access.
