Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia U-20 moved to the top of Group H in the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers after Malaysia held Australia to a 2-2 draw on Thursday (03/09/2026).
Malaysia played Australia earlier in the second matchday at New Laos National Stadium in Vientiane, Laos. The result gave Indonesia an opportunity to take the lead.
Malaysia nearly secured all three points after taking a 2-1 lead. However, Australia equalized through Alaat Abdul-Rahman in the 82nd minute.
The 2-2 draw gave both teams one point. Indonesia then took advantage of the result in its match against hosts Laos.
Nova Arianto’s team produced a convincing 3-0 victory. Fabio Azkairawan opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Zahabi Gholy added two more goals in the 40th and 63rd minutes.
The victory gave Indonesia its first three points in the group. The team now has four points from two matches.
Indonesia and Australia both have four points. Indonesia leads the standings because of its superior goal difference.
The Garuda Muda have a +3 goal difference, while Australia sit at +2. Malaysia occupy third place with two points.
Indonesia will now look to maintain its position at the top as the group stage continues.
