Jakarta, ThedailyID — Malaysian motorcycle racer Farres Putra Mohd Fadhill died after a crash during the Malaysia Cub Prix on Saturday (29/8). He was 18 years old.
Farres competed for CKJ Racing in the CP150 class. The crash happened on the opening lap at Turn 3.
Videos circulating on social media showed Farres involved in a collision with two other riders. One of the riders also appeared to hit the track barrier.
Farres, who raced with number 33, received medical treatment at the circuit before officials took him to Nir Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.
Despite receiving further treatment, Farres died at the hospital.
“Although the medical team made every effort to treat him, he was pronounced dead,” the Malaysian Motor Sports Association (MAM) said, according to Bharian, Sunday (30/08).
MAM praised the quick response from the race organizers, particularly the medical and emergency teams who handled the incident.
The young rider’s death has sent shockwaves through Malaysia’s motorcycle racing community. Several teams and motorsport stakeholders have also expressed their condolences.
MAM said it will investigate the circumstances and exact cause of the crash according to established procedures and safety regulations.
“On behalf of MAM, we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Farres Putra Mohd Fadhill, his teammates, friends and everyone affected by this tragic loss,” the association said.
Following the incident, organizers cancelled the ProAm race scheduled after the CP150 class as a mark of respect for Farres.
