Jakarta, ThedailyID — A major fire broke out at a Sinar Jaya bus depot in West Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, early Tuesday (Aug. 18), destroying 50 buses.

The fire occurred at the company’s depot on Jalan Jarakosta, Sukadanau Village. The buses destroyed in the blaze were reportedly no longer in operation.

The Bekasi Fire and Rescue Service deployed nine firefighting units from several sectors after receiving a report at around 1:45 a.m. Firefighters arrived at approximately 2 a.m. and immediately began battling the flames.

“The fire originated at a bus depot. A total of 50 buses that were no longer operating were reported burned in the incident,” Bekasi Fire and Rescue Service Chief Adeng Hudaya said in Cikarang on Tuesday.

The fire spread rapidly across the approximately 800-square-meter depot. The large number of vehicles at the site made it difficult for firefighters to prevent the flames from reaching other buses.

Additional firefighting teams were deployed from Cibitung Command Post, South Cikarang, North Cikarang, the local government sector and Sukatani.

Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control and continued cooling operations to prevent the flames from reigniting.

No casualties were reported in the incident. Authorities have yet to determine the total material losses.

“There were no reports of fatalities. The losses are still being assessed, and police are investigating the cause of the incident,” Adeng said.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine what caused the fire and where it initially started.
