Satriyo Nurseno, Head of Emergency and Logistics at the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), confirmed that firefighters had found no active fire spots.

“For now, there are no fire spots,” Satriyo told CNNIndonesia.com on Friday (August 14).

Meanwhile, BPBD teams continue monitoring the area with drones. They are also carrying out further sweeps and wetting areas that still produce smoke.

“The joint team is conducting another sweep to ensure there are no remaining embers that could trigger a re-ignition, while also wetting areas that still show signs of smoke,” Satriyo said.

Authorities also deployed three helicopters for water-bombing operations in the Pakis Bincil area. Two helicopters belong to Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), while another belongs to the East Java provincial government.

Satriyo said the fire had affected approximately 1,120.3 hectares within Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS).

“The burned area is approximately 1,120.3 hectares. The data is still developing as the re-assessment process continues,” he said.

The fire affected several types of vegetation, including mountain cypress, mentigen, acacia and shrubs. Authorities reported no deaths in the incident.

The Bromo fire began on Monday (August 3) at around 5 p.m. As the fire spread, TNBTS temporarily closed all tourist access to Mount Bromo starting Saturday night (August 8).

Authorities continue monitoring the affected areas despite the disappearance of visible fire spots.
