Jakarta, ThedailyID — PT Dairi Prima Mineral (PT DPM) has expanded its community empowerment initiatives by launching carpentry and women’s entrepreneurship training programs. The company aims to help residents near its mining operations build sustainable sources of income.
The programs took place in July 2026 as part of PT DPM’s Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM). They followed a community needs assessment conducted by the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team.
As a result, PT DPM designed the training to match local economic potential and community needs. The company also hopes the programs will create long-term business opportunities.
PT DPM held the carpentry training on July 23. The program involved 12 participants from Tungtung Batu, Polling Anak-Anak, Longkotan, and Bongkaras. Most participants already had basic woodworking skills and experience in house construction.
Meanwhile, PT DPM organized a two-day entrepreneurship workshop on July 27–28. Around 26 women’s groups from nearby villages joined the program. The company partnered with the Dairi Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and SMEs Office (Disperindagkop) to deliver practical business training.
Participants learned to produce cassava chips, banana chips, brownies, sponge cakes, and other traditional snacks. PT DPM expects these skills to help women establish home-based businesses and increase household income.
For the carpentry program, PT DPM collaborated with Dalihan Natolu Furniture Store (PT Karya Total Mandiri) in Parongil. Local furniture craftsman Dayan served as the instructor. He shared technical woodworking skills as well as practical business knowledge.
Beyond production techniques, both programs introduced participants to marketing strategies, market analysis, and business management. These lessons aim to help participants develop competitive and sustainable businesses.
Chief Legal and External Relations Officer Radianto Arifin said the initiative reflects PT DPM’s commitment to strengthening economic independence in communities surrounding its operations.
“We designed this CSR program to equip local communities with practical skills that create economic value. We hope these training programs open new business opportunities and provide sustainable income for families,” Radianto said.
In addition, Radianto praised the participants’ enthusiasm throughout the training. He said PT DPM hopes residents will continue improving their skills and produce goods with greater market value.
Carpentry participant Sahmin Bako from Sopokomil said the training gave him new knowledge and the opportunity to learn from experienced entrepreneurs.
Similarly, Vivi Aprianti from Tungtung Batu Village said the food processing workshop gave women practical skills to start home businesses. She added that the program could help families generate additional income.
Overall, PT DPM said it will continue expanding community empowerment programs. The company hopes these initiatives will strengthen local entrepreneurship and support long-term economic resilience.
