54-Are Bali Land Promo by Foreigner Sparks Legal Questions

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesian authorities are reviewing a viral social media video showing a foreign national promoting a 54-are plot of land in Kintamani, Bangli Regency, Bali, after the clip sparked questions about land ownership regulations.

The video, which circulated widely on Facebook, prompted online discussions over whether a foreign citizen could legally market land with freehold ownership status in Indonesia.

Bangli Regent Sang Nyoman Sedana Arta said the local Communications and Information Office (Kominfo) has begun investigating the video.

“We have already asked Kominfo to look into it,” Sedana Arta said on Friday, July 31.

He said authorities have yet to verify the exact location or ownership of the land featured in the video. According to him, some areas in Penelokan, Kintamani, along the Denpasar–Singaraja route, allow development under regional spatial planning regulations, provided developers meet specific requirements.

Sedana Arta added that the video could simply be social media content and noted that the area includes both state-owned forest land and privately owned property.

In the video, the foreign national stands against the backdrop of the Batur Caldera while promoting what he describes as a prime development site.

“I got the land with the best views in Kintamani. What are you building?” the man says in the video.

He also claims the property offers panoramic views of Mount Batur and Lake Batur, making it attractive for developers.

Authorities have not confirmed the ownership status of the land or whether any laws were violated. The investigation remains ongoing.
