Trump Rejects Claims US Is Running Low on Ammunition After Iran Conflict

Jakarta, ThedailyID — US President Donald Trump has rejected claims that the United States is running low on ammunition following months of military operations against Iran, insisting the country’s weapons stockpile remains strong.

Speaking on Monday, July 27, Trump said the US military still has more weapons than it currently needs. However, he argued that the previous administration under Joe Biden had sent too many arms to Ukraine.

“Biden gave so much to Ukraine, so we’re rebuilding it. But we have plenty,” Trump said, according to Anadolu Agency.

“We also have a lot at the intermediate level. I mean, more than we can use.”

Trump said he would prefer the United States to maintain even larger stockpiles. He added that his administration is rebuilding military inventories “very quickly.”

His remarks came after defence analysts warned that a prolonged conflict with Iran could strain US supplies of long-range missiles and air defence munitions.

Katherine Thompson, a senior defence and foreign policy researcher at the Cato Institute, said the duration of any conflict would determine whether US stockpiles remain sufficient.

“Time is the biggest factor here. If this lasts for weeks and then we reach a ceasefire, everything is fine,” Thompson said, as quoted by the New York Post.

She warned that US ammunition reserves could face significant pressure if the conflict continued for one or two years.

Thompson also said the US military faces logistical challenges in protecting around 50,000 American troops stationed across the Middle East.

The United States and its ally Israel have been engaged in conflict with Iran since late February.

The two sides agreed to a ceasefire in April, which was later extended indefinitely. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at preventing further attacks.

However, Trump ordered US forces to resume strikes against Iran in mid-July, reigniting concerns over the potential length and cost of the conflict.
