Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Trump administration is reportedly reviewing military options involving Cuba, even as the conflict between the United States and Iran continues to escalate.
According to CBS News, citing sources familiar with the discussions, U.S. military planners have examined several scenarios for possible action against Cuba.
The options reportedly include an airborne assault involving thousands of U.S. troops.
Sources said the operation could involve the 101st Airborne Division, the only U.S. military unit specifically trained for that type of mission.
However, U.S. officials stressed that military planning does not mean President Donald Trump or the Pentagon has decided to launch an operation.
The report also noted that any military action against Cuba would face major logistical challenges.
Much of the U.S. military’s aircraft, intelligence assets, and operational capabilities remain committed to ongoing operations in the Middle East.
Sources told Anadolu Agency that military action against Cuba is unlikely in the near term because Washington continues to prioritize its campaign involving Iran.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has continued to advocate a diplomatic transition toward a technocratic government in Cuba that would pursue economic reforms.
Despite those efforts, Washington has increased financial pressure on Cuba’s military establishment and state-controlled business groups.
Last week, Rubio accused Cuba’s leadership and what he described as its “corrupt elite” of rejecting reforms while maintaining strict political control under what he called a “morally bankrupt Marxist ideology.”
Since returning to the White House for a second term, Trump has repeatedly taken a tougher stance toward Cuba. He has previously said the United States had considered intervention on the island.
The report comes as U.S. military operations against Iran continue despite earlier ceasefire efforts and agreements aimed at reducing tensions.
