Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s benchmark stock index closed lower on Monday as widespread selling pressure pushed hundreds of stocks into negative territory. The decline reflected cautious investor sentiment despite gains in several blue-chip shares.
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) fell 0.75% to close at 6,101.28. During the session, the index moved between 6,089 and 6,161.
A total of 373 stocks declined, while 215 stocks advanced and 207 stocks finished unchanged. Most sectoral indices also ended the day in negative territory.
The financial, technology, and infrastructure sectors led the market’s decline. Meanwhile, several consumer-related stocks managed to limit broader losses.
Trading activity remained relatively active throughout the day. Investors recorded total transaction value of around Rp10.9 trillion, with more than 18 billion shares changing hands across over 1.3 million transactions.
Market analysts said investors continued to monitor global economic developments and geopolitical risks. Those factors weighed on risk appetite and encouraged profit-taking after recent market gains.
Despite Monday’s decline, analysts believe investors will continue watching upcoming domestic economic data, Bank Indonesia’s policy outlook, and global market movements for fresh direction.
The IHSG has remained volatile in recent weeks as investors balance optimism over Indonesia’s economic outlook against uncertainty in international financial markets.
