Android Running Slow? Here's How to Clear Cache Safely

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Android phones can gradually slow down as apps store temporary files over time. Clearing cache is one of the easiest ways to free up storage, improve performance, and fix minor app issues without deleting personal data.

Cache stores temporary files that help apps load faster. However, these files can build up over time and take up valuable storage space. In some cases, corrupted cache files may also cause apps to crash or lag.

Here are several ways to clear cache on an Android phone:

1. Clear cache for individual apps

Open Settings, then go to Apps or Applications. Select the app you want to clean, tap Storage, and choose Clear Cache. This removes temporary files without deleting your account, photos, or other personal data.

2. Use the built-in storage cleaner

Many Android brands include a storage management feature. Open Settings, select Storage, then use the built-in cleaner if available. Some manufacturers also provide optimization apps that safely remove unnecessary cache files.

3. Delete browser cache

If your web browser feels slow, clearing its cache may help. Open your browser’s settings, find Privacy or Browsing Data, then clear cached images and files. You can keep your saved passwords and bookmarks if you choose.

4. Restart your phone regularly

A simple restart clears temporary system memory and helps improve performance. While it does not remove all cached files, it can reduce lag caused by apps running in the background.

5. Keep apps updated

Developers regularly release updates that improve performance and fix bugs. Updating apps may solve issues caused by outdated cache or software glitches.

Clearing cache is generally safe because it only removes temporary files. Apps may load slightly slower the first time you open them afterward, but they will rebuild fresh cache files automatically.

If your Android phone still feels slow after clearing cache, consider deleting unused apps, removing large files, or checking available storage. A device with very little free storage will often experience slower performance regardless of cache size.
