Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a series of cultural and tourism programs ahead of the capital’s 500th anniversary in 2027. Officials hope the celebrations will strengthen Jakarta’s identity, preserve its heritage, and attract more domestic and international visitors.
The city plans to organize events throughout the year instead of holding a single celebration. The calendar will include cultural festivals, traditional performances, exhibitions, sporting events, culinary festivals, and community activities across Jakarta.
Officials said the anniversary is more than a ceremonial milestone. They want to use the occasion to showcase Jakarta’s transformation from a historic port city into a modern global metropolis while preserving its cultural roots.
Betawi culture will remain the centerpiece of the celebrations. The government also plans to feature Jakarta’s multicultural identity through collaborations with artists, creative communities, and cultural organizations.
In addition, the provincial government expects the expanded event calendar to boost tourism and support local businesses. Hotels, restaurants, transportation services, creative industries, and small businesses could benefit from higher visitor numbers.
Officials are also preparing supporting infrastructure and public spaces to improve visitors’ experiences during the anniversary celebrations. They plan to announce more programs and event schedules gradually as preparations continue.
Jakarta officially marks its 500th anniversary in 2027, making it one of the city’s most significant historical milestones. The provincial government hopes the year-long celebration will strengthen Jakarta’s position as one of Southeast Asia’s leading cultural and tourism destinations.
