Jakarta, ThedailyID — U.S. President Donald Trump blasted critics of the newly signed U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding (MoU), calling them “stupid” after facing backlash over the agreement.
Trump made the remarks on social media just hours after signing the 14-point peace framework separately with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
“These fools, who think I wasn’t tough enough on Iran, are either jealous, evil, or stupid,” Trump wrote while pointing to record-high stock markets and falling oil prices as signs the agreement was working.
The MoU gives Washington and Tehran 60 days to negotiate a final agreement aimed at officially ending the conflict that began in February 2026.
Under the framework, the United States agreed to lift sanctions on Iran’s oil sector. In addition, Washington pledged to facilitate a US$300 billion reconstruction compensation package for Iran after both sides reach a final nuclear agreement.
Meanwhile, Iran agreed to reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium through a supervised down-blending process under international oversight.
However, the agreement immediately drew criticism from several U.S. media outlets and foreign policy analysts.
MS NOW argued the White House extended the ceasefire without achieving its original war objectives while offering significant financial concessions to Tehran. The network also claimed Iran had outmaneuvered the Trump administration.
Similarly, Fox News cited critics who argued the deal gives Iran substantial financial benefits without guaranteeing a complete end to its nuclear program.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal described the agreement as one of the biggest foreign policy gambles of Trump’s second term. The newspaper said the president is expected to face strong opposition from Iran hawks who believe Washington conceded too much in exchange for too little.
