Jakarta, ThedailyID — Brazilian football star Neymar has reportedly inherited an estate worth about US$110 million from a longtime admirer in Brazil.
Brazilian media identified the benefactor as Clóvis da Silva, a 77-year-old retiree. Before his death, Silva named Neymar the sole heir to his fortune.
The story quickly gained attention across Brazil. It also sparked international interest because the two men reportedly never met in person.
Silva said he deeply admired Neymar and viewed the footballer as a source of inspiration. He also explained that he had no close relatives to whom he wanted to leave his assets.
According to reports, Silva’s estate is worth around 1 billion Brazilian reais. That amount equals roughly US$110 million at current exchange rates.
As news of the inheritance spread, many people questioned why Silva chose one of the world’s most famous athletes as his beneficiary. Meanwhile, legal experts noted that Brazilian law allows people to leave assets to non-relatives if they follow inheritance regulations.
Neymar and his representatives have not publicly commented on the reports.
The 34-year-old forward remains one of Brazil’s most recognizable athletes. During his career, he has played for Santos, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Al Hilal.
In addition, Neymar holds the record as Brazil’s all-time leading men’s international goalscorer.
Although celebrity inheritances rarely make headlines, this case highlights the unique connections public figures can build with supporters. In this instance, that bond appears to have extended far beyond the football pitch.
