687 Complaints Filed in Hanania Travel Umrah Fraud Case, Police Question 70 Witnesses

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Police have received 687 complaints related to the alleged Umrah fraud case involving Hanania Travel, as authorities continue to investigate one of Indonesia’s largest recent pilgrimage travel scandals.

Investigators have also questioned 70 witnesses as part of the ongoing probe. The witnesses include victims, company representatives, and other individuals linked to the case.

Authorities launched the investigation after hundreds of prospective Umrah pilgrims reported financial losses and failed departures. Many customers claimed they had paid for pilgrimage packages but never received the promised services.

Meanwhile, police continue to collect evidence and trace the flow of funds connected to the travel agency’s operations. Investigators are also examining documents and financial records to determine the full scale of the alleged fraud.

The growing number of complaints suggests that the case affected pilgrims from multiple regions across Indonesia. As a result, authorities expect the number of reported victims to increase as the investigation progresses.

Police have urged additional victims to come forward and submit reports. Doing so could help investigators build a more comprehensive picture of the case.

The Hanania Travel case has once again highlighted risks in Indonesia’s Umrah travel industry. In recent years, several travel operators have faced legal action after failing to fulfill obligations to customers.

Consequently, the government has repeatedly reminded prospective pilgrims to verify a travel agency’s legal status, track record, and licensing before making payments.

Authorities have not yet announced the total financial losses linked to the case. However, investigators continue to gather information from victims and witnesses.

For now, police say they remain focused on identifying those responsible and ensuring legal accountability for any violations uncovered during the investigation.
