Jakarta, ThedailyID — A United States Army Apache attack helicopter crashed near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes, as tensions continued to rise across the Middle East.
However, US President Donald Trump confirmed that both pilots survived the incident without injuries.
“The pilots are fine. Nobody was hurt,” Trump told reporters at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday evening.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash. Nevertheless, officials expect to release more details after completing an initial investigation.
The incident occurred near the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to global markets. As a result, global energy traders closely monitor developments in the area.
Around one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes through the narrow route each day. Therefore, any disruption in the area can quickly affect international energy markets.
Meanwhile, the crash came just one day after Iran and Israel exchanged attacks. Consequently, concerns have grown over the future of a fragile ceasefire in the region.
Iranian state media also reported the incident and cited foreign news outlets. However, Iranian authorities did not disclose additional details about the helicopter or the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Since the conflict escalated following US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February, global markets have faced renewed uncertainty. In particular, investors have watched developments around key energy routes.
Moreover, geopolitical tensions have pushed energy prices higher in recent months. Analysts warn that threats to shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz could create further volatility in oil markets.
The New York Times first reported the Apache crash. According to the newspaper, the helicopter went down near the strategic waterway under circumstances that remain unclear.
As of Tuesday, both the US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Pentagon had yet to issue detailed public statements about the incident.
Meanwhile, military investigators continue to examine the crash. They will determine whether mechanical issues, environmental conditions, or other factors contributed to the accident.
