Jakarta, ThedailyID — A child fell into an elephant enclosure at Ragunan Zoo, sparking widespread discussion on social media and raising concerns about visitor safety.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 1, when the child reportedly climbed over a safety barrier before falling into the enclosure. Videos of the incident quickly circulated online and drew public attention.
Ragunan Zoo management said preliminary findings pointed to parental negligence as a contributing factor. Officials stated that warning signs and safety barriers were already in place around the elephant habitat.
According to zoo authorities, the child entered a restricted area after being left unsupervised. Staff members and nearby visitors immediately responded after noticing the situation.
Fortunately, the child did not suffer serious injuries. Zoo personnel successfully evacuated the child from the enclosure shortly after the incident occurred.
Ragunan management emphasized that visitors must follow all safety regulations while inside the zoo. Officials also urged parents to closely monitor children, especially near animal exhibits and restricted zones.
The zoo said it would evaluate additional safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. However, management stressed that visitor awareness remains a key factor in maintaining safety.
The incident has renewed discussions about parental responsibility in public spaces and the importance of following safety instructions at tourist attractions.
