Jakarta, ThedailyID — Goat meat often becomes one of the most popular dishes during Eid al-Adha celebrations. However, many people still believe the meat can instantly raise cholesterol levels and trigger high blood pressure.
Health experts explained that the assumption does not fully reflect medical facts. According to doctors, cholesterol levels and blood pressure usually rise because of overall eating habits and lifestyle patterns, not from goat meat alone.
Experts said goat meat contains protein, iron, vitamin B12, and several nutrients needed by the body. Compared to some other red meats, certain cuts of goat meat also contain lower fat levels.
However, doctors warned that excessive consumption may still create health risks. The danger becomes higher when the meat is cooked with large amounts of salt, coconut milk, or saturated fat.
People with hypertension, high cholesterol, heart disease, or metabolic disorders also need to pay closer attention to portion sizes and cooking methods.
Meanwhile, several health experts explained that dizziness or headaches after eating goat meat do not always directly indicate rising blood pressure.
In many cases, the symptoms may result from overeating, dehydration, fatigue, or excessive intake of fatty foods.
Doctors also reminded the public that blood pressure does not suddenly spike immediately after eating moderate portions of goat meat.
Instead, long-term dietary habits, smoking, stress, obesity, and lack of exercise remain the main contributors to cholesterol problems and hypertension.
To reduce health risks, nutrition experts recommended balancing meat consumption with vegetables, fruits, enough water intake, and regular physical activity.
They also advised people to avoid overeating during holiday gatherings. In addition, healthier cooking methods like grilling or boiling may help reduce fat intake.
Meanwhile, experts encouraged the public not to immediately fear goat meat without understanding its overall nutritional context.
When consumed in reasonable portions and combined with balanced nutrition, goat meat can still become part of a healthy diet.
