TikTok Shop Fee Cuts Could Increase Up to 16 Times for Sellers

Jakarta, ThedailyID — TikTok Shop reportedly increased commission fees for sellers in Indonesia, with some deductions potentially rising up to 16 times higher than previous rates.

The policy quickly sparked discussion among online sellers and MSME communities because many merchants rely heavily on TikTok Shop for daily sales and product promotion.

According to reports, the higher commission structure applies to several product categories and seller groups on the platform.

Some business owners expressed concerns that the increase could reduce profit margins, especially for small businesses with limited pricing flexibility.

Meanwhile, several sellers said they may need to raise product prices or adjust promotional strategies to balance operational costs.

TikTok Shop has become one of Indonesia’s fastest-growing social commerce platforms in recent years. The platform combines short-form video content with direct online shopping features.

Many MSMEs also depend on livestream selling and affiliate marketing systems available through TikTok Shop to reach customers.

Industry observers noted that platforms often adjust commission structures as competition, operational costs, and monetization strategies evolve.

However, analysts warned that aggressive fee increases could pressure smaller sellers and intensify competition among merchants.

The policy additionally revived broader discussions regarding platform dependence among digital sellers in Indonesia’s rapidly growing e-commerce ecosystem.

Despite criticism, TikTok Shop continues holding a strong position in Indonesia’s online shopping market because of its large user base and algorithm-driven product exposure.
