Jakarta, ThedailyID — Andi Amran Sulaiman claimed Indonesia’s food reserves remain sufficient until March 2027 despite growing concerns over the potential impact of El Niño.
Amran delivered the statement during a national food security discussion on Tuesday. He said the government continues strengthening domestic production and stock management.
According to him, Indonesia currently holds strong reserves of several major commodities, including rice and corn.
“We are optimistic the national food stock remains safe until March 2027,” Amran said.
He also claimed Indonesia has improved agricultural productivity through irrigation programs, seed distribution, and farming assistance.
The government continues monitoring weather conditions closely as El Niño threatens agricultural production in several regions.
El Niño often triggers prolonged dry seasons and lower rainfall. As a result, the phenomenon can reduce harvest yields and increase food prices.
Amran said the government has prepared mitigation measures to anticipate possible disruptions caused by extreme weather.
The ministry also coordinates with regional governments to maintain food distribution and stabilize supply chains across the country.
Indonesia previously faced food security concerns during major climate events that affected rice production and commodity prices.
However, the government insists current stock levels remain under control despite global uncertainty and climate-related risks.
