Jakarta, ThedailyID — PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk said construction of its Chlor Alkali and Ethylene Dichloride (CA-EDC) plant has reached 66% completion.
The company is developing the project through subsidiary PT Chandra Asri Alkali. The project has now entered the logistics infrastructure phase.
Current construction focuses on jetties and storage tanks. These facilities will support product distribution and chemical supply chain operations.
Director of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs Suryandi said integrated infrastructure plays an important role in strengthening Indonesia’s chemical industry ecosystem.
“We see integrated infrastructure as an important element in building a more efficient and competitive national chemical industry,” Suryandi said.
The project has also created jobs during the construction phase. Around 3,000 workers currently support the development process.
Chandra Asri expects the facility to create around 250 additional jobs once operations begin in the first quarter of 2027.
The company has also involved local small and medium enterprises in project operations and supply chain activities. Chandra Asri said the collaboration could help strengthen local economic growth.
Indonesia’s government has classified the CA-EDC plant as a National Strategic Project. Authorities believe the facility can support downstream industrialization and long-term economic development.
Once operational, the plant aims to produce 827,000 tons of caustic soda annually. It also targets annual EDC production of 500,000 tons.
The company expects caustic soda production to reduce import dependence for Indonesia’s industrial sector. Chandra Asri estimates the facility could replace imports worth around $293 million each year.
Meanwhile, the company plans to export most EDC products. Those exports could generate up to $300 million in annual foreign exchange revenue.
Chandra Asri said the project reflects its long-term commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s industrial supply chain and economic growth.
