Jakarta, ThedailyID — A 19-year-old Palestinian woman, Hala Salem Darwish, remains in critical condition after a sniper shot struck her in the head in the Gaza Strip, just days before her planned wedding.
Local reports indicate the incident occurred in an area where civilians were present, raising renewed concerns over safety despite a ceasefire agreement that has technically been in place since October 2025.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Darwish suffered severe head trauma and was rushed to a nearby medical facility. However, limited medical resources and damaged infrastructure continue to challenge treatment efforts across Gaza.
The shooting adds to a broader pattern of violence that has persisted despite the ceasefire. Palestinian health officials report that since the agreement took effect, at least 830 people have been killed and more than 2,345 injured.
Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned that conditions in Gaza remain critical. Hospitals face shortages of essential supplies, while ongoing restrictions and infrastructure damage limit emergency response capabilities.
In addition, many residential areas remain heavily damaged, leaving civilians exposed and vulnerable. Reconstruction efforts have moved slowly, further complicating daily life for residents.
The continued incidents have also raised international concerns about the effectiveness of the ceasefire. While the agreement aimed to reduce hostilities, reports from the ground suggest that violations still occur frequently.
For many civilians, including Hala Salem Darwish, the reality remains unchanged. Even during periods of supposed de-escalation, the risk of violence continues to shape everyday life.
