Jakarta, ThedailyID — Police arrested a 67-year-old man identified as EF after he allegedly stabbed his ex-wife during their child’s wedding reception in Sunter Agung, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The incident occurred at Gelanggang Remaja on Jalan Sunter Karya Timur around 12:00 p.m. local time and shocked guests attending the family celebration.
According to Tanjung Priok Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKP Handam Samudro, the suspect allegedly attacked his former wife, identified as ES (55), while greeting guests on the wedding stage.
During the handshake session, EF suddenly took out a knife that he had reportedly prepared beforehand and stored inside his bag. He then stabbed the victim once before she collapsed at the venue.
Security officers at the building immediately contacted police after the attack. Officers later arrived at the scene, gathered witness statements, and secured evidence connected to the case.
Police suspect the attack was motivated by personal revenge, although investigators continue examining the full motive behind the incident.
Authorities also revealed that the suspect had prepared a handwritten letter before attending the reception. In the letter, EF allegedly expressed resentment toward his former wife over issues during their past marriage.
Investigators said the suspect intentionally brought both the letter and the knife to the venue before carrying out the attack.
Meanwhile, police transported EF and the evidence to Tanjung Priok Police headquarters for further investigation. Authorities charged the suspect under Article 468 of Indonesia’s Criminal Code regarding premeditated assault, which carries a maximum prison sentence of four years.
