Jakarta, ThedailyID — An 11-year-old boy died after being pulled into an irrigation pipe while swimming in the Cibanten River.

The incident occurred in Serang, Banten, when the victim was reportedly playing in the river with friends. At the time, water flow in the area was strong, especially near the irrigation system. According to local authorities, the boy was suddenly sucked into a drainage pipe connected to the river. The strong current made it difficult for nearby people to help immediately.

Residents and emergency teams quickly launched a search effort. However, the challenging conditions around the pipe slowed down the evacuation process. After hours of searching, officers eventually recovered the victim’s body from inside the irrigation channel. Authorities later confirmed that the child had died.

Officials reminded the public about the dangers of swimming near irrigation systems. These areas often have strong currents and hidden suction points that can pose serious risks. Moreover, local authorities urged parents to supervise children more closely, especially when they play near rivers or water infrastructure.

The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in unmanaged river areas. While such locations are often used for recreation, they can quickly turn dangerous due to unpredictable water flow.

Overall, authorities continue to call for increased awareness and preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
