5 Rarest MBTI Personality Types: Is Yours on the List?

Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) helps people understand different personality preferences. Among its 16 personality types, five stand out as particularly rare. So, does your personality type make the list?

Psychologist Carl Jung developed the theory of psychological types that inspired the MBTI framework. It groups personality preferences into 16 combinations based on four pairs of characteristics. In addition, the framework explores how people perceive the world and make decisions.

However, no personality type ranks above or below another. Each type has its own strengths and limitations. Even so, some types appear less frequently in population estimates.

According to Psych Central, these five personality types rank among the rarest.

1. INFJ (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling, Judging)

INFJs often earn the nickname “Advocates” because they value helping others and making a positive difference. Some estimates identify INFJ as the rarest MBTI type. In the United States, for example, this group represents around 1.5% of the population.

People with this personality type often gravitate toward humanitarian work. They also tend to understand other people’s emotions and seek meaningful relationships. However, they may find it difficult to open up and get to know others.

2. ENTJ (Extraversion, Intuition, Thinking, Judging)

ENTJs often display strong leadership qualities and focus on long-term goals. As a result, many descriptions associate this type with business and career-oriented environments.

They also tend to communicate confidently, embrace new ideas, and approach challenges with energy and determination.

3. INTJ (Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, Judging)

INTJs enjoy finding new ways to understand and solve problems. They often rely on logic and strategic thinking when making decisions.

Furthermore, they value independence and prefer to handle tasks on their own. Although they often think ahead, they may sometimes struggle to adapt to unexpected changes.

4. ENFJ (Extraversion, Intuition, Feeling, Judging)

ENFJs often find motivation in helping others reach their goals. For this reason, they may thrive in teaching and other professions that involve supporting people.

They also tend to communicate well, welcome different perspectives, and show loyalty to those around them. Their energy and adaptability can help them work effectively with others.

5. ENTP (Extraversion, Intuition, Thinking, Perceiving)

ENTPs often approach challenges with curiosity and creativity. They enjoy exploring new ideas and finding logical solutions to complex problems.

Moreover, they prefer environments that give them room to experiment and think independently. People with this personality type also tend to show strong strategic thinking, flexibility, and a goal-oriented mindset.

Ultimately, understanding your MBTI type can provide a starting point for reflecting on education and career choices. However, personality preferences alone do not determine someone’s abilities, potential, or future success.
