Jakarta, ThedailyID — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has offered to help build Transjabodetabek bus stops in Bekasi, West Java, to improve public transportation services.
“If they are not built, we can build the stops ourselves. That would be fine too,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, October 26.
He made the offer during a meeting with Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto, who attended the signing of a cooperation agreement on waste management in Bantargebang.
During the meeting, Pramono highlighted the growing demand for Transjabodetabek services, including routes connecting Jakarta with Bekasi.
He said daily ridership on the Bogor route had reached around 8,000–10,000 passengers. Meanwhile, the Bekasi route served approximately 4,000–5,000 passengers daily.
Pramono added that Bekasi residents had repeatedly asked why bus stops in the city had not yet been built. He said his offer aimed to improve public transportation facilities without distinguishing between residents based on their identity cards.
He also called for stronger coordination between the Jakarta provincial government and Bekasi city administration.
Bekasi Says Construction Is Underway
Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto said bus stop construction was already underway and scheduled for completion by the end of November.
However, Tri did not rule out the possibility of financial assistance from Jakarta through cooperation between the two regional governments.
“There is a possibility that Jakarta could assist Bekasi as part of cooperation between the two regions. I believe the larger region helping the smaller one reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation,” Tri said.
Tri added that development projects required collaboration rather than relying on a single regional government.
Although assistance for the bus stops was not included in the existing cooperation agreement, he expressed hope that the proposal could move forward.
He also acknowledged that any assistance would depend on Jakarta’s fiscal capacity.
