Jakarta, ThedailyID — Saudi Arabia executed two Bangladeshi nationals in Mecca on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, according to the Saudi Ministry of Interior. Authorities said the pair received death sentences after a court found them guilty of committing a sexual act inside a mosque.
The two individuals were identified as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, both Bangladeshi citizens. Security officials arrested them following the incident at a mosque in Mecca.
After an investigation, prosecutors brought the case before the competent court. The court found both individuals guilty and imposed the death penalty under Saudi Arabia’s ta’zir legal framework.
The ministry said the court considered the seriousness of the offense, the violation of the mosque’s sanctity, and the circumstances surrounding the incident when determining the punishment.
The verdict became final after the relevant judicial authorities upheld it. A royal decree then authorized the execution, which took place in the Mecca region on October 14.
In its statement, the Ministry of Interior reaffirmed the Saudi government’s commitment to maintaining security, upholding justice, and enforcing Islamic law against those who violate the sanctity of mosques.
The ministry also warned that authorities would punish anyone who committed similar offenses under the kingdom’s applicable laws.
