Jakarta, ThedailyID — FIFA President Gianni Infantino faces fresh controversy over allegations that he received millions of euros in payments beyond his official salary and bonuses. An investigation by British newspaper The Times reported that some of the funds were not recorded in FIFA’s accounts.
According to the report, Infantino has two sources of income. The first comes from FIFA, which is headquartered in Switzerland, and appears in the organization’s official financial records.
The second allegedly comes from entities responsible for organizing the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The report raises questions about whether these additional payments were properly disclosed.
FIFA’s 2024 annual report listed Infantino’s compensation at 4.274 million Swiss francs, equivalent to around Rp91 billion. However, the figure reportedly differs from information in US tax records.
The US Internal Revenue Service reportedly recorded an additional payment of €1.6 million, or around Rp32 billion, from FWC2026 US Inc. The payment allegedly did not appear in FIFA’s official accounts.
Of that amount, €500,000 was classified as “other reportable compensation.” The funds were reportedly used to cover rent for a luxury home on Sunset Island in Miami Beach.
Furthermore, The Times reported that Infantino received similar transfers in 2025 and 2026. The newspaper also cited confidential sources who alleged that other payments to the FIFA president were substantially larger.
The report said FIFA had been contacted for clarification. However, no FIFA stakeholder was reportedly willing to explain why the transfers were not recorded in the organization’s official accounts.
The allegations raise questions about the transparency of payments connected to FIFA’s leadership and the organization of the 2026 World Cup. However, the reported payments and their classification remain allegations based on the investigation cited by CNN Indonesia.
