Jakarta, ThedailyID — The 2026 Formula One Singapore Grand Prix is taking place amid haze affecting Singapore, as air quality concerns prompt authorities and race organizers to prepare health precautions for spectators and workers.
The haze is suspected to be linked to forest and land fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan, with smoke carried by winds toward Singapore. According to Channel News Asia, Singaporean authorities, race organizers, and the Singapore Tourism Board have prepared medical assistance and access to N95 masks for spectators and workers around the circuit if necessary.
Data from Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) showed that the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) ranged from 118 to 168 on October 10, 2026. These readings fall within the unhealthy category.
The NEA also forecast that air quality could remain between unhealthy and high-unhealthy levels on October 11. On Sunday, the agency reported moderate haze across parts of Singapore, Peninsular Malaysia, Kalimantan, central and southern Sumatra, and western Sarawak.
Despite the conditions, organizers said there were no plans to change the weekend’s entertainment schedule. The FIA also stated that the main race remained scheduled to proceed as planned, while air quality conditions continued to be monitored in coordination with local authorities.
The NEA has advised the public to reduce strenuous outdoor physical activity when air quality deteriorates. Children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with heart or lung conditions are advised to take extra precautions and limit outdoor activities.
The haze has added a health consideration to one of Formula One’s major night races, although the event schedule remains unchanged according to the information provided by organizers.
