Jakarta, ThedailyID — Maximo Quiles has another chance to secure the 2026 Moto3 world title at the Mandalika Grand Prix in Indonesia.
The 18-year-old CFMOTO Aspar Team rider leads the championship with 326 points. David Almansa follows with 199 points, leaving Quiles 127 points clear.
The Indonesian Grand Prix will be Quiles’ second opportunity to clinch the championship. He missed his first chance at the Japanese Grand Prix after finishing second behind Almansa.
Quiles has enjoyed a remarkable season so far. He has recorded nine wins and 14 podium finishes from the first 16 Grands Prix.
Only 125 points will remain available after the Mandalika race. Therefore, Quiles needs to leave Indonesia with a lead of at least 125 points to become world champion.
The simplest scenario would see Quiles win the race. If he takes the victory, he will clinch the title regardless of Almansa’s result.
Quiles can also become champion with a second-place finish. In that scenario, Almansa must finish third or lower.
A third-place finish could also be enough. However, Almansa would need to finish fourth or lower.
Other combinations could also secure the title if Quiles finishes outside the podium. However, those scenarios would depend on the results of Almansa, Álvaro Carpe, and Brian Uriarte.
Quiles enters Mandalika after finishing second at Motegi. Almansa won the Japanese Grand Prix, while Carpe finished third.
The result delayed Quiles’ championship celebration. However, it also set up another potential title decider in Indonesia.
The Moto3 race at Mandalika is scheduled for Sunday, October 11. The weekend runs from October 9 to 11 at the Mandalika International Street Circuit.
For Quiles, a victory would bring his first Moto3 world championship. It would also cap a season in which he has dominated the lightweight class.
