Jakarta, ThedailyID — Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has responded to the Constitutional Court’s ruling on his eligibility as a vice presidential candidate in the 2024 election.
Gibran said he respects all stages and proceedings at the Constitutional Court. He also said he would remain focused on his duties.
“We respect all the stages and processes at the Constitutional Court. Most importantly, I will continue to focus on working for the people and delivering the President’s vision, mission and programs,” Gibran told reporters on Wednesday, October 7.
Gibran also addressed the court’s finding that it did not find documents proving he had completed education abroad equivalent to senior high school.
He questioned how he could have attended university if he had not graduated from high school.
“If I didn’t graduate high school, I couldn’t have gone to college. I studied up to a bachelor’s degree in Singapore,” Gibran said.
The Constitutional Court issued its ruling in case No. 01/PHPU.PRES-XXIV/2026 concerning the 2024 presidential election dispute on Tuesday evening, October 6.
The court declared that the petitioners lacked legal standing. It also said the petitioners could not seek Gibran’s disqualification as vice president through the case.
The petitioners included the Independent Election Monitoring Committee (KIPP), Partai Ummat, former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Denny Indrayana, six citizens from the TNI Veterans Forum, M Subhan, Bonatua Silalahi and Tiurma M.S. Sihombing.
During the proceedings, the court said it did not find documents showing that Gibran held a diploma proving completion of education abroad equivalent to senior high school.
Constitutional Justice Arsul Sani said Gibran had applied for recognition of his high school education through the government’s overseas diploma equivalency service.
The application process requires documents such as a diploma, certificate, academic record or other proof showing completion of the relevant education level.
The court nevertheless said it could not disqualify Gibran as vice president. It referred the issue concerning the education documents to other institutions with authority under the 1945 Constitution.
