Jakarta, ThedailyID — A Saudi-led coalition has deployed around 100 fighter jets in a military operation against Houthi forces in Yemen.
The coalition said it has destroyed 324 high-value targets since launching the operation. Anadolu reported the statement on Monday.
The coalition also said it has provided 24-hour air support to Yemeni government forces fighting the Houthis on the ground.
In addition, coalition forces are providing air protection around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The strategic waterway connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
The coalition said it continues to conduct operations against moving targets in Yemen.
Meanwhile, Yemeni government forces have launched their own “Dawn of Yemen” operation to retake territory from the Houthis.
Government troops have reportedly advanced in several areas. Yemeni military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Majid Abdullah al-Nuzayli said government forces had captured territory around Bab el-Mandeb.
The forces include the Southern Giants Brigades and Nation’s Shield forces, according to Middle East Monitor.
Al-Nuzayli also said government troops had captured Dhubab Airport. They reportedly cut the route connecting Dhubab and Mocha.
Government forces then established a fire-control center in the area to support the ongoing military operation, according to Al-Nuzayli.
The developments mark an escalation in fighting between Yemen’s government forces and the Houthi group. However, the figures and battlefield claims in the reports come from the parties involved in the conflict.
