Jakarta, ThedailyID — President Prabowo Subianto appointed career diplomat Arrmanatha Nasir as Indonesia’s new foreign minister on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Arrmanatha replaced Sugiono in a Cabinet reshuffle. In the same reshuffle, Prabowo appointed Sugiono as Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs.
Arrmanatha took his oath of office at the State Palace alongside 16 other officials. He pledged to uphold the 1945 Constitution, follow Indonesian laws and carry out his duties with responsibility.
Before becoming foreign minister, Arrmanatha served as Deputy Foreign Minister in Prabowo’s Red and White Cabinet. He held the position alongside Deputy Foreign Ministers Muhammad Anis Matta and Arif Havas Oegroseno since October 2024.
He also previously served as spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under former Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
Arrmanatha is a career diplomat with experience in several domestic and overseas assignments. His diplomatic career includes a posting at Indonesia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2008 to 2012.
During that assignment, he worked on economic and development issues at the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee and the Economic and Social Council. He also represented Indonesia in negotiations involving the Group of 77 developing countries and China.
From 2010 to 2011, Arrmanatha served as an adviser on economic issues and least developed countries to Joseph Deiss, president of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly. UN records list Arrmanatha as an adviser on economic issues and least developed countries on Deiss’ team.
His career also includes serving as Indonesia’s ambassador to France, Andorra and Monaco, as well as Indonesia’s permanent representative to UNESCO from 2019 to 2021. He later became Indonesia’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York.
With his appointment on October 1, Arrmanatha now takes over Indonesia’s foreign policy portfolio as the country’s new foreign minister.
