Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia dropped one place in the latest FIFA ranking despite beating Singapore 2-0 in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
The victory initially moved Indonesia from 118th to 117th. However, Togo’s victory over Burundi gave the African team more points and pushed Indonesia back to 119th.
Indonesia earned 4.12 points from its victory over Singapore. Its total increased from 1,157.05 to 1,161.17 points.
Togo, meanwhile, defeated Burundi 1-0 in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The result gave Togo an additional 10.72 points, raising its total from 1,152.76 to 1,163.48.
That put Togo 2.31 points ahead of Indonesia. Togo consequently moved from 119th to 118th, while Indonesia slipped to 119th.
The difference in points comes from the weighting of the competitions and the rankings of the opponents. The Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers carry a higher competition value than the FIFA ASEAN Cup, which has a coefficient equivalent to a friendly match, according to the reports.
The opponents’ rankings also affect the points awarded. Burundi previously ranked 142nd, while Singapore ranked 148th.
As a result, Indonesia gained fewer ranking points despite winning its match. The FIFA ranking therefore reflects more than simply whether a team wins or loses.
Indonesia currently has 1,161.17 points and sits 119th in the world. Togo holds 118th place with 1,163.48 points.
Indonesia still has two group-stage matches remaining in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The Garuda squad is scheduled to face Malaysia on September 28 and Bangladesh on October 1.
The latest ranking also puts Indonesia close to Namibia. The African team is currently around the same points range, making the upcoming results relevant to Indonesia’s position in the ranking.
At the top of the ranking, Spain remains in first place, followed by Argentina, France, England, and Morocco, based on the September 27 update.
