Jakarta, ThedailyID — Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan are preparing an emergency meeting of their military chiefs following recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.
The plan emerged after the three countries’ foreign ministers met on Thursday, September 24. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry announced the planned meeting in an official statement.
The meeting will discuss ways to support Saudi Arabia under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement. The agreement was signed by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan in Makkah on August 7, 2026.
The agreement states that an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be treated as an attack against all three. It also calls for stronger defense cooperation among the members.
The foreign ministers also discussed the wider situation in the Middle East. They stressed respect for international law, national sovereignty, and non-interference in domestic affairs.
The ministers also backed efforts to reduce tensions and work toward a permanent peaceful solution.
The talks came after a series of attacks that Saudi Arabia attributed to the Houthis. Saudi authorities have reported interceptions of missiles and drones aimed at areas within the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia’s air defenses previously intercepted a drone that attempted to enter the restricted airspace around Makkah on September 15. Pakistan later condemned the attempted attack and reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty.
The Gulf Cooperation Council also condemned Houthi ballistic missile launches toward Taif and Yanbu on September 24. The GCC said the attacks targeted Saudi territory and civilian safety.
The recent escalation has added another layer to tensions across the Middle East. The Saudi-Houthi confrontation is unfolding alongside the broader regional conflict involving the United States and Iran.
The planned meeting of military chiefs will therefore focus on the practical defense arrangements available under the Makkah agreement. However, the Saudi statement did not provide a date for the meeting.
