Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia will raise several global issues during its national statement at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Foreign Minister Sugiono will deliver the speech on Saturday, September 26, in the afternoon in New York. In Indonesia, the speech could take place on Sunday morning.
Sugiono said Indonesia will focus on the importance of building global resilience. He said strong national and regional resilience can support efforts to address global challenges.
“Indonesia will deliver its national statement on Saturday, September 26, during the afternoon session,” Sugiono said at a press conference in New York on Wednesday, September 23.
He said the current global situation remains uncertain. Therefore, Indonesia will highlight the importance of collective resilience.
Sugiono said Indonesia will address four key areas during the session.
First, Indonesia will present its views on international peace and security. The country will also discuss the situation in Palestine.
Second, Indonesia will push for stronger multilateralism. Sugiono said Indonesia will also discuss reform of the United Nations.
Third, Indonesia will highlight the role of the Global South. The group of developing and emerging countries has become part of Indonesia’s diplomatic focus.
Fourth, Indonesia will discuss efforts to support peace and recovery in Gaza. Sugiono said Indonesia wants the peace process to produce concrete changes on the ground.
“This means continuing to push for a permanent ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian aid reaches people in need, and accelerating the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza,” Sugiono said.
Sugiono has also held several high-level meetings during his UNGA visit. On Monday, he attended a D-8 ministerial meeting.
On Tuesday, he joined the meeting titled “The Road Ahead: One Year After the New York Declaration.” The meeting discussed concrete steps toward implementing the two-state solution and advancing the Gaza peace process.
He also attended MIKTA and ASEAN-Pacific Alliance ministerial meetings.
In addition, Sugiono held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. He also held informal meetings with several other foreign ministers.
Sugiono also met a candidate for UN secretary-general from Costa Rica. He later joined a trilateral meeting with the Netherlands and UN Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix.
The discussions covered bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues, according to Sugiono.
