Jakarta, ThedailyID — Jay Idzes will miss the Indonesia national team’s campaign at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 after suffering a thigh injury while playing for Sassuolo.
Idzes picked up the injury during Sassuolo’s victory over Juventus. He left the match in the 81st minute before further examinations confirmed the thigh injury.
The defender expressed his disappointment and apologized to Indonesian supporters. He had hoped to return to the national team after also missing the previous international break because of an injury.
“Dear Indonesia, unfortunately, I cannot join the team for this international break because of an injury,” Idzes said, reported on Friday, September 18.
He said missing national team duty again was particularly difficult. Idzes had been looking forward to representing Indonesia after his absence during the previous international break.
“Representing Indonesia means a lot to me, and not being there with the team and all of you is clearly difficult for me,” he said.
Idzes will now focus on his recovery. He said he wants to make sure he returns fully fit before playing again.
“For now, my focus is on recovering fully and doing everything I can to come back stronger and ready,” Idzes said.
Despite his absence, the Sassuolo defender said he would continue supporting the national team during the tournament.
“Even though I cannot be there, I will support the team every step of the way. Let’s stand together as one, behind the team, and give them all our support,” he said.
He also sent a message to his teammates ahead of the tournament.
“Good luck, guys. See you all soon,” Idzes said.
The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place from September 24 to October 5, 2026. Idzes will therefore miss Indonesia’s matches during the tournament as he continues his recovery.
