Jakarta, ThedailyID — The West Kalimantan provincial government has extended its emergency haze status following forest and land fires until September 20, 2026.
The extension covers the period from September 7 to September 20. Authorities will continue firefighting and cooling operations in several areas across the province.
West Kalimantan Deputy Governor Krisantus Kurniawan confirmed the decision in Pontianak.
“The forest and land fire haze emergency status will be extended from September 7 to September 20, 2026,” Krisantus said on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
He said ground and air task forces are still working to control the fires. The teams are also carrying out cooling operations to prevent fires from spreading.
The provincial government has prepared emergency funding for the response. This includes funding through the Unexpected Expenditure Budget, or BTT.
“The budget is used to support personnel mobilization, logistics provision and distribution, clean water needs, and health services for communities affected by the disaster,” Krisantus said.
Kubu Raya Regency has also extended its disaster emergency status. The decision followed an evaluation with several agencies, including the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
Kubu Raya Regional Secretary Yusran said the dry season could continue until mid-October 2026.
“We held an evaluation meeting attended by several agencies, including BMKG. After reviewing the conditions, we estimate that the dry season will continue until mid-October 2026,” Yusran said on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The extended emergency status allows the local government to strengthen its response to the impacts of the dry season.
The measures include support for the health and education sectors. Authorities are also continuing to extinguish fire hotspots in several areas.
“Although the number of hotspots has decreased significantly, officers and volunteers continue to monitor and extinguish fires to prevent them from spreading again,” Yusran said.
Authorities will continue monitoring the situation as the dry season persists. They will also maintain firefighting efforts in areas where fires remain active.
