Jakarta, ThedailyID — A teacher at SD Negeri 060807 Medan, North Sumatra, identified by the initials DAL, has resigned after allegedly hitting 10 students who had not completed their homework.
The teacher had previously been reported by the students’ parents to the Medan Education Office. Following the incident, officials instructed DAL to stop teaching and assigned the teacher to administrative duties.
“The latest information we received is that the teacher has resigned. Since the incident, we ordered the teacher not to teach and assigned them to picket duty. However, the teacher chose to resign and submitted a resignation statement, so we did not force the decision,” said Medan Education Office Head of Basic Education Development Mujiono, as quoted by detikcom, Thursday (03/09/2026).
Mujiono said the Education Office had invited the school and students’ parents to a mediation meeting on Tuesday, September 1. However, the parents did not attend despite receiving calls and invitations.
“We invited everyone for mediation, but the parents chose not to attend. We contacted them and also asked the principal and homeroom teachers to invite them, but they still did not come,” Mujiono said, as quoted by detikcom, Thursday (03/09/2026).
Mujiono said the parents had since forgiven the teacher. He also stated that teaching activities at SDN 060807 Medan had returned to normal.
“Parents have forgiven the incident. Everything is back to normal, but administratively, the principal still needs to receive a warning letter to prevent something like this from happening again,” Mujiono said.
The Education Office is continuing to address the administrative aspects of the case following the teacher’s resignation.
