Jakarta, ThedailyID — The name Twitter is making a comeback as a social media platform after Elon Musk renamed the original service X.
Operation Bluebird, a startup based in Virginia, United States, has officially launched Twitter.now, a new social network designed to revive the identity and experience associated with the former Twitter.
The company had previously sought to reclaim Twitter’s former name and bird logo, arguing that the intellectual property had been abandoned after Musk acquired the company in 2022 and rebranded it as X.
“We’re a small company, we have investors, and we have a product,” Operation Bluebird co-founder Stephen Coates said, as quoted by Ars Technica on Monday (31/8).
“We’ve been waiting for months to launch it, and we’re not going to wait anymore,” he added.
However, the return of the Twitter name remains tied to an ongoing legal dispute. X Corporation sued Operation Bluebird late last year, seeking to prevent the launch of the new platform.
During a hearing in April 2026, U.S. District Judge Colm Connolly indicated that X appeared to have abandoned its intellectual property claims over the word “tweet” and Twitter’s bird logo. He also suggested the same could potentially apply to the “Twitter” name, although no written ruling has been issued.
Operation Bluebird maintains that Twitter.now is independent from X Corporation.
“We are not X, and we are not affiliated with X Corp,” the company states on its website.
The platform is still in its early stages, with only hundreds of users. Its interface resembles the original Twitter, including features such as replies and retweets.
Twitter.now also introduces an automated fact-checking system powered by Gemini called Vera, short for “veracity engine for real-time analysis.”
Coates said the platform aims to create a safer digital town square based on the principle of “freedom of speech and not freedom of reach.”
