Jakarta, ThedailyID — President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his condolences to families who lost loved ones in the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Prabowo delivered the message while meeting earthquake survivors at an evacuation center in Nagekeo, NTT, on Wednesday (August 26, 2026).
“I extend my condolences to all the people of Flores and the areas affected by the disaster, especially those who have lost their family members,” Prabowo said, Wednesday (26/08).
He assured residents that the government would not stand by while communities recover from the disaster. The government, he said, continues to monitor conditions on the ground and prepare assistance for affected residents.
Prabowo also said authorities expect conditions to become relatively safe within about three weeks, based on assessments from experts.
“Perhaps for safety, schools may have to operate in tents first. According to our experts, we need to be patient. It may take a maximum of around three weeks before conditions are relatively safe,” he said.
After conditions stabilize, the government plans to begin constructing temporary housing and repairing damaged homes.
The visit came as the NTT earthquake continued to affect communities across Flores, with thousands of residents displaced and casualties continuing to be reported.
