8 Benefits of Drinking Black Coffee Without Sugar Every Day

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Drinking coffee without sugar every day is not necessarily bad for your health. Black coffee without added sugar, cream or syrup can be a lower-calorie option for coffee drinkers.

The effects of coffee can vary depending on how much is consumed and what is added to the drink. For healthy adults, up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day is generally considered safe, although caffeine levels vary by coffee type and brewing method.

Here are eight potential benefits of drinking black coffee in moderation:

1. Boost Energy
Caffeine is a natural stimulant that acts on the central nervous system. It can increase alertness and help people feel more awake, particularly in the morning.

However, caffeine affects people differently. Those who are sensitive to it may experience anxiety, restlessness or a faster heartbeat after drinking too much coffee.

2. Lower the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
Some studies have linked coffee consumption with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes. The potential effect has also been observed with decaffeinated coffee.

Coffee contains bioactive compounds such as chlorogenic acid, which may influence glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. However, researchers are still studying the exact mechanisms.

3. Support Heart Health
Coffee contains antioxidants and polyphenols that may have positive effects on cardiovascular health. Moderate coffee consumption has also been associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease in some studies.

Still, drinking more coffee does not necessarily mean greater benefits. People who are sensitive to caffeine should pay attention to how their bodies respond.

4. Support Brain Health
Caffeine and other bioactive compounds in coffee may have neuroprotective effects. Research has found associations between coffee consumption and a lower risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

However, coffee should not be considered a treatment or guaranteed way to prevent these conditions.

5. Help Bowel Movements
For some people, morning coffee can stimulate the digestive system and trigger the urge to have a bowel movement.

This effect does not appear to depend entirely on caffeine, as decaffeinated coffee may produce a similar response. However, people who experience stomach discomfort may need to reduce their intake.

6. May Be Linked to a Lower Risk of Some Cancers
Coffee contains antioxidants and bioactive compounds that may help protect cells from damage.

Some studies have associated coffee consumption with a lower risk of certain cancers, including liver and colorectal cancer. However, coffee is not an anti-cancer drink, and cancer risk depends on many factors.

7. Support Liver Health
Coffee consumption has been associated with a lower risk of several chronic liver conditions, including fatty liver disease, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Some research has also linked coffee consumption with healthier liver enzyme levels. However, coffee cannot replace medical treatment or a healthy lifestyle.

8. Help With Weight Management
Black coffee contains very few calories when consumed without sugar, cream or syrup. Replacing high-calorie coffee drinks with black coffee can therefore help reduce daily calorie intake.

Caffeine may also temporarily increase energy expenditure, although its effect on weight loss is limited. A balanced diet, appropriate calorie intake, physical activity and adequate sleep remain more important for weight management.

For most healthy adults, moderate coffee consumption can fit into a balanced lifestyle. However, individual tolerance varies, so paying attention to caffeine intake and the body’s response remains important.
