Jakarta, ThedailyID — US President Donald Trump welcomed the signing of the Makkah Defense Pact between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.
The three countries signed the mutual defense agreement in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Trump said the agreement could strengthen the three countries’ ability to respond to security threats.
“Very happy to see Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan recently, and finally, sign the Makkah Mutual Defense Agreement,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday, according to Anadolu Agency.
He said the agreement reflected greater unity across the Middle East.
“The Middle East uniting, and how these countries will finally be able to defend themselves in a much more meaningful way,” Trump said.
Trump also praised the leadership of the three countries and described the agreement as an important first step.
“This is a great, bold, and important first step. Wow!” he added.
The agreement was signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Under the agreement, an armed attack against any of the three countries would be treated as an attack against all three.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the pact was based on longstanding ties and Islamic solidarity.
The ministry said the agreement aims to strengthen collective security while promoting peace, stability and long-term defense cooperation in the region.
