Jakarta, ThedailyID — President Prabowo Subianto, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Selvi Ananda showcased traditional Indonesian attire during the country’s 81st Independence Day ceremony on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.

Prabowo, who served as the ceremony’s inspector, wore a modern blue beskap with a black peci. He also completed the look with a jasmine garland around his neck.

Meanwhile, Gibran wore Rote traditional attire from East Nusa Tenggara. His outfit featured a Lafa cloth wrapped around his waist and draped over his shoulder.

The cloth featured Hua Peni motifs, which represent the dignity and order of Rote tradition. Its prominent maroon-red lines symbolize courage, vitality and respect for ancestors.

Gibran also wore a black jacket with a Ti’i Langga, a traditional hat made from dried palm leaves. The hat represents strength, honor and leadership.

Similar Rote-inspired outfits were also worn by Gibran’s children, Jan Ethes Srinarendra and La Lembah Manah.

Selvi, meanwhile, wore Ta’a attire from the Dayak Kenyah community in East and North Kalimantan.

Her outfit featured a Kalong Aga motif, which represents simplicity combined with dignity, strength, confidence and a connection to nature and ancestors.

Like Gibran’s outfit, Selvi’s attire prominently featured red. In Dayak Kenyah tradition, the color represents enthusiasm, courage, inner strength and resilience.

The different outfits highlighted Indonesia’s cultural diversity during the 81st Independence Day celebrations.
