Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Vietnam in the AFF Cup 2026, with captain Rizky Ridho enduring a difficult night as the loss left the Garuda’s semifinal hopes hanging in the balance.
Vietnam took control early by scoring twice within the opening 15 minutes. Both goals came after defensive lapses that put Indonesia under immediate pressure.
Ridho, who started on the right side of Indonesia’s back three alongside Jordi Amat and Shayne Pattynama, played a role in the opening goal. He lost possession while Indonesia attempted to build from the back under Vietnam’s high press.
Vietnam quickly turned the turnover into a counterattack. Nguyen Van Vi then finished from a tight angle to give the visitors an early lead.
Indonesia tried to respond by pushing more players forward. However, that approach left space behind the defense.
On the second goal, Ridho moved forward to support the attack. Vietnam immediately exploited the gap by sending a long pass toward Nguyen Hai Long on Indonesia’s right flank.
Ridho could not recover in time, while the covering defenders also failed to close the space. Hai Long then beat goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata with a finish at the near post before Jordi Amat could intervene.
The two early goals shifted momentum firmly in Vietnam’s favor. The visitors controlled much of the remaining match and added a third goal through Nguyen Xuan Son.
The 3-0 victory strengthened Vietnam’s position in Group A. Meanwhile, Indonesia now faces mounting pressure and must win its remaining match to keep its hopes of reaching the AFF Cup 2026 semifinals alive.
